Meet the Team

Latif Hamed MD is an Ocala Ophthalmologist who is named in Best Doctors in America and America’s Top Doctors. He is a tenured Professor and former chief of the Department of Ophthalmology at UF Shands Hospital (1989-1997). He trained at the renowned Johns Hopkins Wilmer Ophthalmological Institute and at the University of Miami Bascom Palmer Eye Institute. He graduated with a B.S. in chemistry summa cum laude from Purdue University, MD and residency in Ophthalmology from Indiana University. Dr Hamed has numerous Awards and accolades, Including Best of the Best Award, American Academy of Ophthalmology Honor Award, and the Heed Ophthalmic fellowship award. He is the author of several books and over a hundred research articles in his field and has lectured widely nationally and internationally. He is currently the medical director at the Florida Eye Specialist Institute. He resides in Ocala and is the proud father of five children.

Nadine Hamed MD is an Ocala-native and ophthalmologist trained at the University of Florida. She was encouraged to pursue ophthalmology by her father who has been her role model and inspiration since she shadowed him at Florida Eye Specialist Institute as a child. Nadine completed a BS in chemistry, her Medical Doctorate, and Ophthalmology residency at the University of Florida and is a proud Gator. She served as Chief resident and was awarded Resident of the Year and the VA Sunshine Award for her hard work and cheerful disposition by her faculty and peers. Nadine joined the practice in 2024 and is very excited to work with her father Dr. Latif Hamed, to serve her Ocala community, and to bring the benefit of fresh eyes to Florida Eye Specialist Institute.
